Developing Leading Skills
| Angela Sayia - 16 Mar 2024

In today’s world knowledge of a subject is not enough if you wish to succeed professionally. You need to develop several skills that would make you a great manager or leader in an industry.

As educators, we all keep this in mind when teaching and planning certain activities so that our students develop their critical thinking and learn to think outside the box.

But what skills do you think a person needs to overcome any difficulties he faces in life? Here are some that I consider essential:

-Organize and plan: whether a student or a professional this is something you need to develop. Time management is also essential when you do not wish to fall behind.

- Build Relationships: be people-focused and learn to empathize, listen to people, and support them. If you work with a team empower them and do not leave anyone behind. Inspire or be inspired by them this will cultivate motivation and you will all be driven to succeed. Team culture is of great importance as we go much further as a team. Great Leaders know that very well!

-Resolve conflicts: I dislike conflicts as I consider them a great waste of energy so I try to resolve them quickly and honestly. I always apologize when I am wrong and give credit to anyone who deserves it.

-Develop your talents: never stop learning, there is always something new out there for you to learn. Be eager to do so and be a great listener.

-Have clear goals and be decisive. There will be obstacles, do not give up: it might take longer but you will make it.

-Have a clear vision. You need to know where you are going.

- Be adaptable to change and do it quickly. In tough times you need to be flexible.

- Integrity is key. Be honest and humble. People will respect you and support you if you are an authentic person. Making money is not the only goal in life.

To conclude, as an educator I try not just to teach my students a grammar rule or a new word. I try to prepare them for life. I also try to make the process fun. You never forget how a person made you feel or a person who believed in you and what you can do.

So my advice to all your young readers is, to follow your dreams, stay true to them, and enjoy the journey and the process because that is what makes it all worth it!
