Love your Neighbor as Yourself
| Oksana Slovik - 01 Feb 2022

Love your neighbor as yourself (God’s commandment). So the topic of one of the lessons in our 1-V class sounded last week. Yes, I agree, the commandment makes deep sense, and not every adult can understand it and explain it.
But the children themselves inspired me to choose such a lesson topic. How was it? Together with the children they discussed various reflections of kindness, made rules of kindness and tolerance. And so we have a rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself “.
It was decided to delve into this topic and give children tasks to think about: not doing homework, for example, is disrespect to whom? And to write off on the test, to behave inappropriately - is it a humiliation of parents, teachers, or disrespect for yourself? I like to ask such difficult questions to students. Frankly, my first-graders, not jokingly thinking, discussed the problem in groups and all answered unequivocally that such indecent acts indicate self-disrespect, but they have not thought about it to this day.
Love yourself first, and then everything will be consistent, responsible.
After all, first of all, you need to love yourself to do something important in this world. Probably, the first and most important kindness, respect, tolerance is the first and most important - to yourself. Attention and sensitivity, self-respect, and self-love allow others to hear clearly. Is it possible to consider good someone who looks at the world from the position of a martyr, sees only negativity, harm in everything, or, conversely, everyone else is to blame for everything, and I just “watch”? The message of sacrificing “everything for others, and I do not need anything”, “they are all to blame, but not me”, is not a creation, but a destructive charge. A person who does not love himself is unhappy, which means that his kindness is false, exhausted, suffering. What will she give to others if the inside is empty? Perhaps such a person wants to be kind, tries, and even gives the impression of “good” to others, but “love your neighbor as yourself” is not able, because he does not accept himself.
