For students, there will be times when they have to engage in self-learning despite attending school. Whether it is a difficult problem or a new concept, learning by themselves requires tremendous discipline and dedication. Students often require guidance in order to achieve self-discipline, which is crucial for academic life. Many people limit the meaning of self-discipline to maintaining timetables and completing tasks. But in a broader sense, self-discipline requires having the same focus every day, no matter how one feels otherwise. The first step to self-discipline is to set achievable goals. A single lesson a day or a book in an entire week is a good start. Self-discipline also means understanding that what works for one person may not work for another. Identifying and working during the time one feels most motivated is a practical approach to discipline. This also applies to dividing the time with respect to the goals.  Certain concepts require more time and focus, which means they need to be prioritized. Another crucial step towards self-discipline is to identify distractions. With most classes moving online, students find their attention diverted to other apps on the phone. To prevent this, there are several apps like Forest and Off time that restrict the use of distracting apps.
One of the best ways to ensure self-discipline is by getting peer support, especially in the beginning. Other students who are also self-learning can motivate one another and ensure everyone achieves their goals. While self-discipline is hard to achieve, it isn’t impossible. As students, discipline is crucial to study well and achieve better results. It provides the much-needed focus to study by oneself, especially in the absence of a teacher’s guidance. By staying consistent with the above steps, students can utilize self-discipline for self-learning.
Self learning on one side, provides a greater degree of learning, self discipline, provides a controlled conduct of achieving the learnings. As learning can be best obtained when it is self driven, the self discipline leads the way and makes it possible. In a nutshell, the self is the motivation within and outside, to make the best learning happen with discipline, passion and persistence. Therefore,  discipline embarks the learning with self in the centre and a holistic self development. self learners are those, who with the learning focus and disciplined approach, enable self to learn the new and exciting aspects. By self discipline, it is not the right, but the calculated and process based approach. No doubt, learning is the focal point, and the outcome is enhanced skill, which may further lead to the employability. In the recent times, where technologies are emerging, self driven learning will emerge as the most crucial form of learning.
